Equitable Life & Casualty was founded in 1935 and holds it main office in Salt Late City, Utah. It is licensed to operate in 45 U.S. states, as well as the District of Columbia. The company’s beginnings happened in the middle of the Great Depression and this experience reflects on its strong commitment to providing quality and friendly customer service to citizens. In addition to its expertise in the niche senior market, through Medicare Supplements and personalized products, it also offers cash benefit plans and basic life insurance.
Equitable Life & Casualty also operates through its subsidiary, Equitable National Life. The latter’s offerings are consistent with its parent firm, and it specializes in Medicare Supplements, hospital indemnity, final expense life, and short-term care and cancer insurance products.
Equitable offers four of the 10 Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans standardized by the federal government: A, F, N, and G. Sold under the EquiChoice brand, these Medigap policies provide immediate coverage and a guaranteed renewable contract with unlimited lifetime benefits. Plan holders can also choose any doctor, specialist, medical supplier, or hospital and are not limited to a provider network list.

To be able to purchase any of Equitable Life’s medicare supplement plans (or any Medigap plan from other insurers, for that matter), you must be enrolled in both Original Medicare Part A and Part B. Remember that Medigap plans cover only one person, so spouses will have to purchase separate policies. In addition, if you purchase a Medigap plan and then add a Medicare Part D (prescription drug) plan with the same insurance agency, you might need to make two independent premium payments. It’s best to speak to an expert advisor of Equitable Life & Casualty products for full details.
The best time to sign up for Medicare Supplement is during your Open Enrollment period. This 6-month window starts on the first day of the month in which you celebrate your 65th birthday. Note that you must be enrolled in Medicare Part B for this to happen. If you delay enrolling in Part B because you’re still availing the group health plan from your current job, your Open Enrollment will begin only when you have signed up for Part B.
If you miss this six-month period, insurance providers may reject your application or charge you a higher premium monthly fee, especially if you have a pre-existing medical condition. However, if you do enrol during your designated six months, insurance agencies are required to approve your application for any Medigap plan you apply for. You will also not be subjected to medical underwriting.
